Rehau

A leading supplier of polymer-based solutions in the construction, automotive and industrial sectors, Rehau is known for its innovative approach in good and challenging times.

Measuring its success in numbers, Rehau is proud to employ over 20,000 of the top people in the business worldwide, at 170 offices across 54 countries, including seven in-house chemical development laboratories.

Founded in the Bavarian town of Rehau, Germany, in 1943, the company started off manufacturing arm straps and sideboards for the VW Beetle.

“Over 70 years of experience and our commitment to developing our business responsibly and innovatively while protecting our planet are the cornerstones of our success,” says Rehau.

That commitment led the company to develop the first magnetic gasket system for refrigerator doors in 1958, compression sleeve technology in 1987 and the first RAU-SIK silicone seal for a rocket in 1994, among many other achievements.

Since the start, Rehau has also recognised the need for recycling and has been one of the first manufacturers to start returning waste polymers to its production cycle.

“We believe it is our duty to meet the needs of the present without compromising the prospects of future generations. This means taking good care of society and the environment as well as acting responsibly in all that we do,” says Rehau.

“Sustainability is a driving force within the Rehau Group strategy. From our circular economy model to our approach to environmental and occupational safety, we expect Rehau employees and partners will help us build a sustainable business that future generations will be proud to inherit.”

“The principle of sustainability is being integrated into day-to-day operations in all our divisions in different ways. This results in future-oriented products and exciting new forms of collaboration within the company which we present here at regular intervals. sustainably is more than just a trendy thing to talk about. It’s the fundamental belief of our company and the way we ensure that our actions today will serve our planet well for many years to come.”

Over the past years, these efforts have led to 43% of CO2 saved (in 2021 in comparison to 2018) and 15% recycling in total tonnage (2021), for instance.

Offering advanced polymer and composite products for industry and end-users locally, Rehau South Africa provides customers with a combination of locally produced products, as well as imported speciality products, including vehicle OEMs, furniture and uPVC windows.

Rehau has offices in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, as well as two factories.

“South Africa remains a cornerstone within the overall REHAU strategy to supply our local market and serve as a springboard for markets in Southern Africa. We presently pride ourselves in servicing customers in Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Ghana and the DRC,” Rehau adds of its commitment to the market.
