Black Rose Interiors: Quiet Luxury Window Treatments

Some rooms don’t need more drama. They need something that knows when to quietly step aside.

That was the thinking behind the window treatments for this home at Seasons Golf Estate in Hartbeespoort, where floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the interiors to fairway greens, indigenous bushveld and the wide Magalies sky. With natural stone and warm timber already bringing plenty of texture indoors, Black Rose Interiors took a softer approach to the windows.

Texture and movement

Warm, natural textured sheers were chosen to filter strong sunlight without losing the connection to the landscape outside. Unlike a flat voile, the linen-like weave brings subtle texture of its own, picking up the earthy tones of the stone and timber while allowing daylight to move gently through the rooms.

Hung from floor to ceiling, the curtains also emphasise the height of the glazing. Black Rose Interiors specified a wave formation, creating continuous S-shaped folds that fall in neat, even columns. The effect is clean and architectural, but still relaxed enough to suit the natural character of the home.

Getting that movement right depends heavily on the fabric. Selected from Silk House Fabrics for its weight and drape, the sheer has enough body to hold the wave without becoming stiff, allowing each curtain to fall softly whether drawn across the windows or stacked to the side.

Tiny details matter

One of the smallest details may prove to be one of the most useful. Each curtain has been fitted with a clear perspex draw rod, allowing it to be opened and closed without repeatedly touching the fabric. Pale sheers can quickly pick up marks and oils from hands, particularly along the leading edge, so the rods help keep the fabric looking cleaner for longer. They also provide an even pull that helps maintain the wave formation while remaining almost invisible against the glass.

The finished rooms feel light, calm and connected to their surroundings. Afternoon sun is softened, privacy is introduced without completely closing off the view, and the curtains sit comfortably alongside the home’s stone, timber and expansive glazing. Nothing feels overly dressed or decorative; instead, the sheers become part of the architecture, changing gently with the light throughout the day.

That balance between practicality and atmosphere is central to the way Black Rose Interiors approaches window treatments. Founded by Aadil and based in Hartbeespoort, the studio has spent 19 years designing and creating bespoke curtains, blinds and shutters for homes, offices and hospitality spaces across Africa. While the scale and setting of each project may differ, the process remains personal, with every window measured by hand and fabrics, finishes and hanging styles considered in relation to the individual room.

At Seasons Golf Estate, that attention can be seen in everything. From the weight and texture of the Silk House Fabrics sheers to the precise wave formation and almost invisible perspex draw rods. Individually, they are relatively small decisions. Together, they allow the curtains to work beautifully without demanding attention from the architecture or the view.

And in a home where the changing light, surrounding mountains and fairway greens are already doing much of the decorating, that quiet approach feels exactly right.
