Travel Tips: 24 Hours In Amsterdam

Our travels have taken us to the blissful wintry streets of Amsterdam. As the capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is home to a rich heritage and vibrant people, with a city that boasts an elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades.

Today we’re sharing some of our favourite things to do and see in this vibrant city, in the heart of winter.

Winter in Amsterdam can be a very interesting experience. Think frozen canals and February as one of the coldest months of the year. However, this also means that it is a relatively quiet season to venture into Amsterdam and a great time to make the most of the local deals, away from peak tourist periods.

So what do we recommend?

  • Gain access to the many Amsterdam museums with the I Amsterdam City Card. The passes last one, two, three or four days and include a canal cruise. You can get it delivered or pick it up at the airport or the main train station.
  • Go ice skating. Locals often take to the canals on skates when the temperatures remain low and it deemed safe to do so. This is a fantastic way to explore the city and embrace the cold in style.
  • Venture outdoors in the snow and embrace the beauty of winter in Amsterdam. Visit one of the many parks in the city and build a snowman!
  • Amsterdam is often voted the most romantic city in the world… so it’s the perfect place to be on Valentine’s Day! Visit one of the many restaurants and enjoy wholesome Dutch cuisine!

Whatever you decide, Amsterdam is always a great idea for exploration and discovery. Get a feel for the authentic Dutch culture and embrace the beauty of a winter wonderland in February.
