Istoria Design Hotel
Rooted as much in the past as it is in the present, Istoria, a new luxury hotel on Santorini, tells the island’s story through its distinctive design.
Part of Design HotelsTM Originals, Istoria is a 12-suite retreat on Perivolos Beach owned by Kalia and Antonis Eliopoulos.
“The hotel’s name derives from the Ancient Greek word for story and, as such, every corner is imbued with a sense of intimacy, relaxation, and most importantly, comfort, for a prevailing atmosphere that feels like a home away from home,” explain Kalia and Antonis of the hotel that is located on the island’s quieter South-East coast.
“The 12 guestrooms—each with a name in a different language which translates to the word ‘story’—continue the theme of storytelling.”
Drawing on an eclectic mix of Mediterranean influences, Athens-based firm Interior Design Laboratorium brought Isotoria’s vision to life.
Here, rustic textures and traditional pieces, such as oversized stone pots, sit side-by-side with sleek, modern furnishings and accents, such as marble-topped console tables and low-hanging ceramic pendant lights, each piece telling a part of the island’s story.
For instance, while the beautifully restored building with its mosaic floors and architectural details adds warmth and character, contemporary luxuries such as private Jacuzzis or splash pools on the terraces were added to offer “an experience that is wholly and authentically Greek while embracing all the needs of modern and sophisticated travellers”.
The hotel also features a large infinity pool, pool bar, spa and restaurant led by Noma alum Alexandros Tsiotinis.
