La Grange Interiors: A Relaxed Ibiza Holiday Home

Ibiza might be best known for its beach clubs and legendary nightlife, but venture into the quieter northern reaches of the Mediterranean island and you’ll discover a very different side. Here, forested hills, rocky landscapes and vineyards stretch towards the sea, with traditional farmhouses tucked into the countryside. It’s this wonderfully unspoilt setting that provides the backdrop for a beautiful family holiday home designed by South African interior designer Sumari Krige, co-founder of La Grange Interiors. This La Grange Interiors Ibiza holiday home combines relaxed Mediterranean living with a distinctive South African design perspective.

Perched high on a hillside overlooking a valley, the property enjoys sweeping views across the surrounding vineyards and towards the Mediterranean. On a clear day, even the distant islands of Formentera and Mallorca are visible. With development tightly regulated in this part of Ibiza, finding a suitable site was no small feat. Fortunately, the owners secured a rare plot with existing building approval, allowing them to create a generous holiday home for their young family of five.

Inspired by the traditional Ibizan farmhouse, the architecture combines rustic character with the comforts of contemporary living. The sprawling design opens towards the landscape, encouraging an easy flow between indoor and outdoor spaces and making the most of the beautiful natural surroundings.

Inside, Sumari has created interiors that feel wonderfully relaxed, layered and inviting. Working on the project from start to finish, she handled everything from furniture and fabrics to artwork, accessories and even the crockery.

Her approach brings together an eclectic mix of pieces sourced from Europe, Asia and South Africa, alongside custom-designed furniture made by La Grange Interiors. Generous sofas upholstered in beautifully textured fabrics invite you to settle in, while natural linens, intricate weaves and embroidery add depth and personality.

‘You just want to touch everything,’ says Sumari. ‘You want to sink into the sofa because it’s feather and down.’

The palette is largely neutral, reflecting the owners’ preference for calm, understated interiors, but there’s plenty of interest in the details. Organic wooden bowls, sculptural accessories and a standing lamp fashioned from a log bring the outdoors in, while occasional glamorous touches, including a golden hand-shaped chair and metallic accents, add an unexpected twist.

South African craftsmanship also features throughout, with works by artists and makers including Orly Rabinowitz, Anthony Shapiro, Stanislaw Trzebinski, Richard Templeton Smith, Kristen McClarty and Theresa Jo Wessels. Even the tableware has a local connection, with pieces sourced from Wonkiware.

It’s an approach that reflects La Grange Interiors‘ distinctive aesthetic. Established in Franschhoek in 1996, the brand is known for its carefully curated collection of furniture, antiques, textiles and accessories, combining contemporary design with artisanal craftsmanship and pieces collected from around the world. This approach defines the La Grange Interiors Ibiza holiday home, where considered details and a mix of global influences create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

At this Ibizan home, those influences come together beautifully. Nothing feels overly precious or formal, and the richly textured interiors complement the rugged landscape beyond the windows.

‘This home is not a showpiece,’ says Sumari. ‘It is designed to be lived in. It’s really about comfort.’
