Hoop | Nordic Penthouse: Designing Warmth Through Materiality
Winter interiors often lean heavily on decoration and layering to create warmth, but in the Nordic Penthouse, warmth is embedded into the architecture itself through materiality, tone, and tactility. This approach to designing warmth through materiality in the Nordic Penthouse is evident throughout the scheme.
Set within a calm and intentionally restrained interior by Ohkre Collective, the Hoop cabinetry was designed to contribute to the atmosphere of the home rather than dominate it. The apartment features the LINEAR collection by Hoop in natural oak, paired with sintered stone countertops. Together, these materials create a balanced contrast between warmth and precision, bringing softness and tactility into a contemporary architectural setting.
Creating a space of organization and comfort
Throughout the home, the joinery acts less as a series of standalone objects and more as part of the architectural fabric. Full-height cabinetry, integrated storage, and built-in elements allow the interiors to remain visually uncluttered while still supporting the practical needs of everyday life. This sense of order contributes to the overall feeling of comfort, allowing materials and natural light to take precedence.
Natural oak plays a central role in shaping the emotional quality of the space. Unlike colder or more polished finishes, timber carries an inherent warmth that becomes even more pronounced during winter. Its grain, tonal variation, and ability to age gracefully over time reinforce the lived-in quality of the interiors, creating spaces that feel calm, grounded, and enduring.
The sintered stone countertops introduce a quieter sense of durability and refinement. Their subtle texture and muted appearance complement the oak without competing for attention, allowing the overall palette to remain soft and cohesive. The combination of these materials creates interiors that feel warm without becoming visually heavy.
Rather than relying on seasonal styling, the project embraces a more lasting interpretation of comfort. Through thoughtful detailing, restrained materials, and carefully balanced proportions, the interiors encourage slower living and everyday rituals of rest, gathering, and retreat.
At Nordic Penthouse, warmth is not treated as an addition to the space during winter months. It is embedded into the foundation of the design itself through material honesty, tactility, and a calm architectural language designed to support everyday life. The design approach is further reinforced through Hoop’s considered detailing and material choices, which enhance the sense of cohesion throughout the space.
