We recently had the opportunity to talk to the owners and find out more about this growing brand and what you can expect from Creative-Cables in upcoming seasons.

What is your personal style?

Our personal style at the moment is something between industrial and bohemian with about 3000 lego pieces strewn across every surface. We love old and new used together to create a cohesive look but also comfortable enough that you don’t feel like you can’t put your feet up! We love art and illustrations. We love quirky items bought on a whim and then also statement furniture pieces that make a statement. It’s a mix to say the least.

What qualities describe your brand?

Fun! Choice! Creative! Custom and unconventional.

What sets your brand apart in the industry at the moment?

The industry is based on standards; standard lengths, standard colours, standard combinations and the market makes the best out of what is offered. We, at Creative-Cables, turn this on its head and say, What is Your Light Style? What are your requirements and then build your light based on that. Colour, length, component combination, assembled or not… We even customise the colour of cables, lightbulbs and lampshades. And the beauty of this is that it doesn’t cost an extra cent: Custom is our standard.

We are actually so different that our biggest challenge is to get people to realise that when we say custom we really mean it. We have a lighting solution for everyone. We cover different styles, interior design trends, prices range and taste. We have ready-made solutions for those that don’t want to get lost or overwhelmed in the wide sea of choice and then totally custom solutions for those who don’t like standards.

Luxury in 2019 is personalizing your surroundings to your taste so that it reflects your personality – in the lighting industry, this can only be done with Creative-Cables.

What has been the most recent purchase that you have made for your home?

Recently, we purchased red and yellow cabinets from Popstrukt Furniture which are so funky and we love the industrial look of them. Plus our Magnetico® lights just stick to them so it’s a very versatile purchase and we like being able to move our lamps around as we see necessary!

What one design element, trend or furniture item can you not live without?

We love beautiful items but if it can be functional all the better. There are pieces in our home bought secondhand that are my absolute favourite. An old large shop display cabinet which I found at Odds & Ends in Somerset-West has been my find for the year. It has so much storage space plus it is so vintage I have admired it everyday!!

What design influence has had the greatest influence on your work and business?

The need for people to customize their own lighting has been our influence. A need for everyone to be able to create their own lighting no matter who they are.

What has been one of the most challenging projects you have worked on?

To be honest all the projects so far have been fun! It’s never the same because the colour or design is forever changing.

How would you describe the design industry in South Africa at present?

Very exciting. A lot of new creatives emerging. Impressive furniture and interior designers are plenty. We have some serious talent in this country.

What trends do you think we should keep an eye on in upcoming seasons?

More of Mother nature. Using more sustainable and eco-friendly materials. Incorporating more green spaces at your homes or work. Wallpaper inspired by nature will still be trending for a long time to come. Who can go wrong with a giant flamingo on the wall?! It’s going to be all things green I reckon. Green is for Springboks too…its a winning colour!

What exciting projects do you have planned within the next?

We are looking further into systems. We have just launched the Rose-One system that makes colour, choice and personality to ceiling roses and then the Filé system which sees our beautiful flat cable in combination with natural wood accessories turn your wall and ceiling into a lighting canvas.

Stay tuned as we breathe further light into our CreativeTubes system with a full set of accessories and without being able to reveal too much there will be exciting things coming for the outdoors. 2020 will, if possible, be even more exciting than 2019 and we cannot wait to see the reaction of the South African market.
