Lights by Linea: Upgrading Bousval Lifestyle Farm executed by BE3 Architects

A connection that was so exceptionally well considered, and executed by BE3 Architects when they were tasked to renovate and upgrade an existing lifestyle farm, Bousval, just outside of Stellenbosch.

Lights by Linea were privileged to be a part of the professional team that saw the re-imagination, transformation and birth of this now wonderful home. Demonstrating that classic lighting can cohesively live with ultra-modernity.
The juxtaposition of the fixed contemporary walkway lighting and the softer classic red brick column lighting not only served as a reminder that there is a strong bridge between old and new but also fulfilled their individual purposes of highlighting various textures, be it a wall surface or floor.
Lighting plays an integral part in any interior and should always be a top consideration when redesigning an older building. It has the ability to redefine the space, add dimension and create ambience. In this upgrade, we can see how the lighting elements provide functionality and highlight both architectural and interior design elements.
In the end, the home was completely reimagined and fulfilled the client brief to renovate an existing cottage into a 2-bedroom home. The design team also added a functional farm shed, including staff accommodation as well as repurposing two existing, oddly placed cottages, and a swimming pool into a proper family home.
Connecting all the dots while making the most of beautiful views of Table Mountain in the far distance and the Helderberg bowl in closer proximity proved a delightful challenge. The end-result is a contemporary, north facing family home with lots of heart, flooded with natural light and picturesque Winelands views.
