Floating Designs – Where Lighting And Design Meet
When it comes to innovative lighting solutions, Cape Town based Floating Designs offer some incredible solutions to heighten the illumination in any space. It is here where lighting and design meet!
We spoke to Arthur Burger, Managing Director of Floating Designs, about their latest projects and what inspires the brand to reach new heights.
What’s your go-to classic colour choice?
“Always black. When it comes to design, black is the most practical colour, it rarely fades and goes with almost everything – in design, black is not a negative but a neutral.”
Is there a hotel, interior or building that most inspires your work?
“I wouldn’t say so. My partner and I recently visited Europe and have returned home with some new design ideas and concepts but nothing singular.”
A place you love to visit?
“It would depend on if you are referring to local or international. I am a Dutch citizen so internationally, it would have to be The Netherlands. It is full of history, culture and innovation – always something new. Locally, however, would be the beach when it rains. No beach in particular.”
Where do you go to spot new styles?
“As cliché as it sounds, Pinterest. We can actually correlate what lights are going to be popular with what’s trending on Pinterest.”
Do you have a favourite restaurant?
“Still looking for one. I guess whomever prepares the best steak wins (haha). I’m a sucker for a juicy piece of steak served with a healthy portion of crispy fries.”
Inspire a contemporary mood in your space with the Replica Chamont Lavalier Pendant from Floating Designs
Who or what is your biggest design influence?
“I would have to say myself. I like thinking up fresh new ideas. Trying to avoid the internet during those creative moments and seeing other designs and then creating a new design from that subconsciously.”
Any interesting projects you are working on?
“We’ve just recently collaborated with Blok Urban, a property development brand that’s situated in Sea Point, Cape Town. What’s great about being able to collaborate with such a creative brand is that they offer their clients an opportunity to rediscover urban living, which fits in perfectly with where our company is heading. There are several other projects that we’re working on as well but you’ll have to follow us on social media to see more.”
