Cosy lighting with Hoi P’loy
With winter fast approaching, our thoughts turn to cosy spaces, steamy mugs of tea and crackling fireplaces. And what better way to spend a grey winter’s afternoon or cold evening than curled up on the sofa with your favourite book enveloped in a soft, warm glow or enjoying a hearty meal with friends
Both wonderful ways to spend the night and both reliant on the perfect ambience, lighting plays a crucial role in these scenarios, which is where Hoi P’loy comes in.
Founded in 2013 by Ploy Phiromnam and Guy van der Walt, the duo has elevated the level of custom-designed lamps and lighting components available in South Africa, today.
Apart from supplying high-end, functional lighting design pieces, Hoi P’loy also provide a free advisory service to architects, interior designers and product designers to create the perfect illuminating pieces and spaces.
To help turn homes into warm, cosy spaces this season, the team advises to “Ditch the harsh overhead lights”. Explaining that “warm white bulbs and layered lighting with strategically placed sconces” create a much more inviting atmosphere.
Their range includes several beautiful sconce designs, including the classic Simple Sconce with both pull chain and portable plug-in options, their Signature Wall Sconce collection in brass and gunmetal grey, the cute and shapely Gelato Wall Sconce design available in several fun yet sophisticated colourways, as well as the moveable Alfie Wall Sconce.
“Simply hang it up, plug it in, and adjust the mood with a gentle tug on the cord – no electrician required!” says Hoi P’loy. “The Alfie Wall Sconce also seamlessly transitions from place to place – take a piece of South African craftsmanship with you wherever you go.”
“Each of our sconce designs is a perfect example of a simple feature light that goes a long way to brighten up one’s life through day-to-day moments that shine.”
