Franke: Mom Blogger Lauren Hodoul Renovates Her Kitchen In Style

We all wish we had the know-how to take on a kitchen reno with amazing results. However, for most of us, the task is a little daunting, to say the least. Not for mom blogger Lauren Hodoul who decided to give her old kitchen a complete new look with a contemporary twist that we love.

A new kitchen can be a costly affair. However, if you think out of the box, you can get a new look at a fraction of the cost. This was the mission of Lauren Hodoul, mom blogger from Cape Town. She envisioned a new space without any construction and the results speak for themselves.

A little splash of paint, a modern colour palette and a few contemporary finishes is really all it took to convert a dull kitchen to something elegant and even glamorous! She relied on some top suppliers to make her dream kitchen a reality….

A beautiful new kitchen mixer and soap dispenser from Franke set the tone for a more appealing yet functional kitchen. New hardware for the doors and a fresh lick of paint instantly brightens the room.

Lauren also decided to install some strip LED lights under the counter and hung some lantern pendants for added illumination. Lauren explains: “It’s amazing that a few changes can make you feel like you have a whole new kitchen!”

Here are some tips to help you redo your own kitchen on a budget:

  • Colour goes a long way. Like Lauren, if your cabinets are still in a great condition, then you can simply refresh them with a more modern colour. White is timeless, fresh and contemporary.
  • Change out the hardware. Instead of reconstructing the entire room, think about those subtle changes that will add modern appeal in a big way. Invest in new hardware (handles and hinges) – it’s an inexpensive way to give your room a different ambience.
  • Bold lighting. Spend a little on new light fittings. A striking pendant or LED lighting in the kitchen will brighten it up. This will instantly transform your kitchen.

We also got the scoop from Lauren directly and asked her about her kitchen reno. Here is what she had to share…

Tell us what brought about your kitchen makeover?

Now that we are spending more time than ever at home, I thought it would be great to freshen up our family’s favourite gathering place in our house, the kitchen. I didn’t want the expense or lengthy hassle of a full renovation though, so I decided on a few quick and clever change ups that would leave my kitchen feeling and looking like new. I’m just so happy with the results.

Why did you select Franke products for your prep area?

Initially I only could look online as we were in lockdown and I found 3 mixers I liked (one of them being a FRANKE). I then presented my selection to my followers to help me decide, they quickly sent me many DM’s telling me to choose FRANKE, which I did and wow were they right!

Tell us more about the Franke Mirus sink mixer compared to other brands on the market?

When I finally got a chance to go and take a look and feel at stores after lockdown eased up, I was immediately sold on the FRANKE range. The eye-catching design and quality along with the value puts them in a class of their own. Compared to other brands I still could only find what I really liked and wanted from the FRANKE selection.

What features do you like about the kitchen mixer?

Firstly it comes wonderfully packaged. I felt like I was opening a beautiful piece of jewelry for my kitchen. Then the pure aesthetic, quality and multiple use options of this mixer are exactly what I wanted. Being able to fill a pot on my counter with the flexible hose, or using the holder and swiveling it completely out of the way if needed. It also took only minutes to install and instantly updated my prep bowl and surrounds. It’s amazing the visual impact a mixer can have on a space.

Have you used your new products and what did you love about it?

Is it weird that I’m wanting to use my prep bowl more than my main sink now that it got a FRANKE glow up?

I’m finding new joy in washing veggies with my mixer and built in soap dispenser. I’ve always wanted a built in dispenser from the many hours spent scrolling kitchens on Pinterest and I’m so happy with my FRANKE one, everything just works and it’s so shiny!!!

Which Franke product would you still like to add to your collection?

Well a sink of course! As FRANKE are sink masters and the new range is just inspiring. Hopefully it will inspire more dish washing too. But seriously a double sink is definitely next on my list. My main sink area is totally jealous and I need to fix that.
