Since design is the sort of thing that brightens our day and constantly inspires us, we absolutely love it when we have the chance to speak with fellow ‘creatives’, and hear what they have to say on the topic. So you can imagine how delighted we were when we had the opportunity to team up with Make it Wonderful and interview Paige Waplington, owner of Redesign Interiors. Apart from getting to know her and discovering her passion for design, we discussed her 3 top kitchen design tips for the artful homeowner.

“I believe that design is a form of art and is experienced by each person in a different way. This is why I love to design interiors for individuals, telling their story and using their personalities to inspire me. I create unique, beautiful and functional interiors and love to add quirky elements to bring in some fun.” As winners of two African Property Awards and Best Interior Design Private Residence in Africa, Redesign Interiors have certainly made a name for themselves in the world of design.
But that’s all thanks to the hard work and dedication of Paige Waplington, founder of the company. Her go-getter attitude and infectious enthusiasm for design have helped grow Redesign Interiors into the successful interior design company that it is today. Take a look at what her team have to say about kitchen design:
Redesign Interiors Share Their Top Kitchen Design Tips
Tip 1: Since the kitchen is the heart of the home, and probably the most used space in most homes, our advice is to make it a beautiful space that you feel amazing in every day. For instance, if you’re crazy about flamingos, then add a flamingo mosaic to one of your kitchen walls. Or if you think yellow is just the bee’s knees, then don’t be afraid to add this colour to your kitchen cabinets!
Tip 2: Carefully consider your daily kitchen routine, and how you can make the space you have suit your daily needs. For example, if you bake regularly, then design a space just for that. Or if you have a smoothie every morning, be sure to have a spot just for your smoothie machine, next to the fridge where the fruit is, with a small bin close by for all your fruit scraps.
Tip 3: Lighting is crucial in kitchen design. There is nothing worse than not being able to see the amazing food you are about to prepare! That’s why it’s a good idea to consider under counter lighting, sufficient overhead lighting, as well as lighting in your cupboards. Decorative lighting is also a must when it comes to setting the right ambience in the kitchen. So we suggest you bring in some dropped pendants with a warmer light to help set a comfortable atmosphere.
