Technogym Unveils Redesigned Wellness Space at Harrods
Inside Technogym’s newly reimagined Harrods space, Mediterranean textures, warm metals and sculptural fitness equipment propose a more considered vision of contemporary wellbeing.
There was a time when the home gym was designed to disappear.
Tucked behind closed doors and defined primarily by utility, it occupied a world apart from the carefully considered language of architecture and interiors.
Technogym’s newly redesigned space at Harrods suggests something altogether different.
Set across 200 square metres on the third floor of the Knightsbridge landmark, the Italian wellness brand’s new London destination presents fitness not simply as an activity, but as part of the architecture of contemporary life.
Here, performance equipment sits comfortably among natural textures, tactile finishes and a quietly sophisticated material palette. Technology is present without becoming the aesthetic. Instead, the emphasis is on proportion, touch, materiality and the relationship between an object and the space it inhabits.
It is wellness, considered through the lens of design.
The renovation forms part of Harrods’ ongoing multi-year redesign, creating a contemporary setting in which Technogym’s signature aesthetic feels particularly at home.
And while this is unmistakably a showcase for the brand’s latest innovations, the space also reflects a broader shift in luxury interiors: wellbeing is no longer being confined to a room. It is becoming a design principle in itself.
“The new language of wellness is as much about material, atmosphere and space as it is about performance.”
THE MATERIAL WORLD
At the centre of this new environment is Sand Stone, Technogym’s latest collection for private residences, luxury hotels, wellness clubs and high-end fitness spaces.
Its starting point is elemental.
Inspired by the warm, mineral character of Mediterranean sandstone, Sand Stone introduces a softer and more architectural sensibility to the traditionally technical world of fitness equipment.
The palette is deliberately restrained. Earthy neutrals replace visual noise; tactile finishes invite touch; natural materials temper the precision of technology.
The effect is subtle but significant.
Rather than asking architects and interior designers to accommodate fitness equipment after a space has been conceived, Sand Stone allows wellness to become part of the interior vocabulary from the outset.
Cardio, strength and functional training pieces can be specified within a single aesthetic system, creating a continuous, wall-to-wall environment.
The gym becomes a room worth designing.
STONE. TITANIUM. CLAY. WOOD.
The collection reveals itself through its surfaces.
Speckled Stone casings incorporate natural mica and recycled materials, creating depth and variation reminiscent of mineral surfaces.
Alongside them, Warm Titanium introduces the precise sheen of contemporary technology without the coolness usually associated with metal.
Touchpoints are softened with Clay vegan leather, bringing warmth and tactility to the moments where body and object meet.
Then there is wood.
Details in beech and ash provide an organic counterpoint to the collection’s engineered surfaces—a reminder of craft within an environment shaped by advanced performance technology.
Each material plays a distinct role, yet together they form a remarkably coherent whole.
Nothing feels overtly decorative. Nothing needs to.
This is luxury expressed through texture rather than embellishment.
“The gym becomes a room worth designing.”
The significance extends beyond aesthetics. Sand Stone provides architects and homeowners with a common design language across cardio, strength and functional training, allowing an entire wellness space to feel resolved rather than assembled.
For a private residence, the result can be intimate and calm. In a hotel or members’ club, it can establish a recognisable visual identity. Within a dedicated wellness environment, it creates continuity between movement, material and space.
Fitness equipment becomes part of the interior rather than an interruption to it.
THE NEW FORM OF PILATES
If Sand Stone explores the relationship between equipment and architecture, Technogym Reform brings that thinking to one of contemporary wellness culture’s defining disciplines: Pilates.
The reformer has always been a highly functional object. Technogym’s interpretation asks whether it can also be a beautiful one.
Developed in collaboration with leading Pilates instructors, Reform has been conceived around the fluidity of the practice itself.
Adjustments are intuitive and smooth, allowing changes to be made without unnecessarily interrupting the rhythm of a session. The approach makes the equipment accessible across experience levels, from those discovering Pilates for the first time to accomplished practitioners.
Its engineering, however, is only part of the story.
Made using eco-conscious materials including wood, aluminium and vegan leather, Reform possesses an unexpectedly residential quality.
Its profile is clean and architectural. Materials have been selected with the interior as much as the workout in mind. And its three refined colourways—including Sandstone—allow it to sit naturally within carefully composed spaces.
In a private wellness suite, it reads almost as furniture. And in a hotel, it becomes part of the guest experience. While, in a studio, it establishes an aesthetic before the session has even begun.
“Technogym Reform considers the Pilates reformer not simply as apparatus, but as an object within the interior.”
ANALOGUE BEAUTY, DIGITAL INTELLIGENCE
Behind the tactile surfaces lies a connected layer of technology.
Through the Technogym App, Reform users can access on-demand Pilates sessions developed for different fitness levels and goals, extending the experience beyond instructor-led studio practice.
It is a deliberately discreet relationship between physical and digital.
The equipment provides the tactile experience; the platform supplies guidance. Together, they create a personal training environment that can move between home, hotel and wellness suite with remarkable ease.
Technology, in this context, does not need to announce itself.
It simply makes the experience more intuitive.
WELLNESS COMES HOME
The most interesting aspect of Technogym’s new Harrods space may ultimately be what it says about the changing definition of luxury.
The contemporary home has already absorbed many spaces once found elsewhere. Kitchens have become social rooms. Bathrooms have evolved into private spas. Gardens are conceived as extensions of the architecture.
Now wellness is undergoing a similar transformation.
The dedicated fitness room is becoming a space in which lighting, material, furniture and atmosphere matter as much as performance specifications.
That shift demands objects capable of participating in an interior rather than merely occupying it.
With Sand Stone and Technogym Reform, Technogym proposes precisely that: equipment conceived simultaneously around the body and the space surrounding it.
It is an approach rooted in an unmistakably Italian relationship between engineering and aesthetics—where performance need not come at the expense of beauty.
And Harrods provides an apt setting for the idea.
Within one of London’s most enduring expressions of luxury, Technogym presents a compelling vision of its next chapter: quieter, warmer, more tactile and increasingly integrated into the places in which we live.
Because perhaps the future of the wellness space does not look like a gym at all.
Perhaps it simply looks like a beautifully designed room.
