And while plasterboard might do the heavy lifting, getting those all-important joints right comes down to choosing the right jointing plaster. Need to keep things moving?

JUMBO Jointing Plaster, Pelican Systems’ own-brand option, is designed with faster-paced sites in mind. Its working time of around 50 minutes to an hour and first-layer setting time of approximately 65 minutes make it a practical choice when speed matters. The ultra-white, smooth compound can be used for plasterboard joints, as well as filling rough interior cracks before painting. It is available in 15kg and 25kg bags.

Looking for an extra-smooth finish?

Casofour Jointfill is the pink-coded option in the Casofour range. Made from natural gypsum and lime products with additives, it offers around 75 to 85 minutes of workability and is particularly easy to sand once dry. Suitable for walls and ceilings, it can also be used as an interior filler over sand cement, brickwork and concrete. Apply the first layer with a 150mm jointing knife, followed by a second with a 300mm steel trowel before sanding smooth.

Want strength and versatility?

OMV Metajoint is a formulated gypsum jointing plaster designed for patching, bedding and finishing gypsum boards across ceiling and drywall applications. With a pot life of approximately 60 to 80 minutes and a typical drying time on board of four to six hours, it is also compliant with DIN EN 13279-1 and graded Category C6. It is available in 20kg bags and 10kg buckets.

So, which one goes in the trolley? Pelican Systems suggests matching the plaster to the priorities of the project: JUMBO for faster setting, Casofour for a fine, highly sandable finish, and OMV Metajoint when strength and standards compliance are key.

It may be a detail that eventually disappears beneath the paint, but choosing the right jointing plaster can make all the difference to how smoothly the job gets there.
