Creative Ceiling Solutions from Pelican Systems
We often take the greatest care in adorning our walls, but if you ever look up, remember there is an entire ceiling space to play with and incorporate into your design. As seen at Virgin Active in Hillcrest, ceiling innovation takes this space to a whole new level. Thanks to Pelican Systems, this bustling gym offers modern finishes and creative ceiling solutions that are impressive.
The main gym floor and weight training areas are a large open space and an acoustic suspended ceiling has been used to accommodate the lighting and sound requirements. The suspended ceilings are done in blocks separated by a border of flush plastered ceilings to create an extra design feature. To facilitate the transition from Flush Plastered to Suspended ceilings, a trim profile Plaster Ceiling Junction is used. In the Kauai restaurant area, a flush plastered ceiling offers clean, simple lines and a smooth finish. In the spinning studio the ceiling design using a combination of a very high spec acoustic tile combined with flush plastered ceilings, creates a colour blocked ceiling design. The studios for classes also have a combination of acoustic and flush plastered ceilings with bulkheads. The kids’ playzone has a border of flush plastered ceilings with a central suspended ceiling area with acoustic tiles to offer the acoustics needed for this busy play area. In the bathrooms and show areas, an econocal ceiling tile has been used to meet the high moisture resistance requirements. For the steam rooms, PVC ceilings are ideal as the high moisture content will not affect the tile at all.
