The Amanzi Conscious Collection
Homewood Unveil Their Amanzi Conscious Collection of Crafted Luxury Furniture
As a manufacturer of custom, wood-crafted furniture, who has always been mindful about the environment and the impact that their manufacturing process have on it, Homewood’snew Amanzi Conscious Collection is a natural progression from the inherent passion for the planet that initially brought the company into being. But more than that, it is a response to the current and somewhat grim economic and social situation that we face as a nation.
Instead of reacting with apathy towards the downwards spiral of the economy – worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic – Homewood’s founder, Ian Perry and his team, were inspired to take action, be proactive and seek out a feasible solution that would keep their company and others afloat as well as address the widespread issue of unemployment.
Turning Alien Invaders into Artisanal Furniture
Working together with various stakeholders, such as the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF), Avocado Vision, Noceba Trading and the South African National Parks (SANParks), Homewood has become part of the Green Business Value Chain (GBVC) by supporting initiatives such as the Working for Water programme and the Eco-Furniture Programme (EFP) that seek to rid local waterways of alien invasive, water-thirsty trees such as wattle or Cottonwood.
Just over the past 5 years, the WfW team has already cleared up 500 hectares of alien vegetation and has freed up 1.9 billion litres of water per year! Additionally, it has sparked the creation of more than 230 000 jobs.
More Needs to Be Done
Despite the stellar efforts of this organisation, South Africa is still losing the fight against the spread of IAPs. Knowing this, Homewood decided to step in and support the Working for Water Programme by purchasing alien invasive biomass from it to craft their signature African-contemporary, artisanal furniture.
With the new option of having woods locally milled and transported, Homewood will be able to provide the same quality of hardwood furniture but at reduced costs to the customer and the environment.
The Amanzi Conscious Collection will include all of Homewood’s best-loved and handcrafted ranges, such as the Imbiza, Duzu and Paindane ranges, with the single and most important difference being that the woods used in this collection will be those that are removed from South Africa’s waterways.
In a time where much is uncertain and much unstable, this new Eco-Furniture Programme gives hope to many, creates much-needed job opportunities and restores the environment back to its natural balance. The Amanzi Conscious Collection was a no-brainer for Homewood!
