Relax and feel inspired in a Casarredo designer armchair

The history of the armchair goes back thousands of years. Although its design has taken many shapes and forms, its core function has remained the same: A chair is an object specifically made for seating a person.

Form and function interact very closely in armchair design. “In chairs more than in any other object, human beings are the unit of measure,” Curator Paola Antonelli explains. Development in technology and materials continues to shape the ways armchairs are designed and produced. And, as with all design, inspiration plays a vital role in the process. Explore Casarredo’s new range of designer armchairs, and the many processes used by European craftsmen to make these remarkable designs.

Mammoth The Mammoth Chair is hand-crafted with a solid oak wood frame. The Fluffy variant has an upholstery of Washed Canvas, Wool or Vintage Leather and the Slim version comes with cushions upholstered with Vintage Leather. The Mammoth Chair is a modern winged armchair, with the seat and back formed via compression molding. The specific technique used for cutting this form gives this chair its signature. Using a simplified production method, with a focus on creating a clean and minimalistic chair, the Mammoth is both iconic and a comfortable piece of furniture.

Eddy

It’s the latest trend: the fixie bike, a vintage bicycle, which brings to mind a time when the streets were dirt roads and cyclists were heroes. The shapes of Eddy draw their inspiration from the cycling world, but also from the minimal and elemental graphic design of the fixie. “If you think about it, many of the first prototypes in the history of design were made in cycling workshops”, explains Alain Gilles, “because that’s where the masters of tubular metal manufacturing were, and they had the expertise required to make those objects with such essential style”. The Eddy armchair is built using the same logic as bicycle construction, around a tubular metal frame, while the seat is designed to be comfortable and ergonomic.

The way in which the various parts of the frame are connected – using “quick release” fittings – is an obvious reference to the cycling world. The use of separate elements to make up the frame of the armchair makes it possible to play with the graphics and thus create multiple combinations of different colours and finishes. The armrests can be embellished with side pockets which are useful for storing books and magazines or to keep remote controls within easy reach.

Nora
