Ligne Roset: Hemicycle – Sofas By Designer Philippe Nigro
Hemicycle designed by Philippe Nigro for Ligne Roset is a beautifully elegant sofa with soft and organic-shaped seats. These are the fruit of a collaboration between Philippe Nigro, ARC-Atelier de Recherche et de Création of Mobilier National and Ligne Roset.
Hémicycle brings together a passion for research and respect for tradition. The collection is not only great conversation seating, but also a conversation starter.
The chosen name, Hémicycle, thus alludes to the semicircle shape, conveying enveloping comfort. The designer is therefore interested in the casing of the furniture. He suggests a scale superposition system that makes up the backrest.
The building principle allows for formal variations and various chromatic compositions. Philippe Nigro subsequently updates a forgotten type of furniture: the conversation seat, emblematic Second French Empire seat allowing two people to talk without having to turn their heads.
These seats’ flexible shapes hide a metallic netting structure designed by the ARC. As for Ligne Roset, they furthermore contributed with their filling expertise, with a combination of high resilience foam and wire springs.
Beneath its non-conformist demeanor, it offers the undeniable characteristics of comfort, innovation, conviviality and elegance. The common trait seen throughout the collection is its compactness, which allows it to respond to the constraints of smaller spaces, while still making an impact on the overall design aesthetic and use of a room.
The collection is therefore suitable for use in institutions, public spaces, or at home. It represents a classically styled welcoming seat capable of travelling between the highest echelons of power and the intimacy of a contemporary apartment.
