Honouring Women with Fechters
August is Women’s Month in South Africa, a time to celebrate the women who shape the brands, interior design industry, studios, and living rooms. At Fechters Furniture, the team is honouring the women behind their craft by spotlighting the partnership that has energized their workshops: Janet Joan Interior Design. Be inspired with Fechters Furniture.
Janet Joan Interior Design is a all female studio known for bold ideas, thoughtful spaces, and a fearless approach to form and function. Janet’s work centers on telling a space’s story through comfort, texture, and proportion, and her visions consistently elevate every project she touches. Predominantly we create sofas for Janet Joan Interiors, a collaboration that has pushed us to stretch beyond the familiar into the realm of the remarkable.
What makes this partnership so special is Janet’s ability to fuse practicality with imagination. She comes to us with concepts that feel daring—curved backs that cradle you, sweeping profiles that read like sculpture, and combinations of fabric, color, and texture that surprise and delight. Her briefs don’t just require a piece to sit well; they demand a sofa to become an anchor for a room’s personality. She inspires our design teams to experiment, weigh new materials, and perfect the balance between comfort and drama. In return, our craftsmen translate those ideas into durable, high-performance pieces that can endure daily life while aging beautifully.
The results speak to the heart of Fechters: craftsmanship, collaboration, and care. Each custom sofa becomes a narrative thread in a larger interior, a testament to the trust between a visionary designer and a furniture maker who listens, pushes back with expertise, and delivers with precision. Janet’s insistence on quality fabrics, thoughtful scale, and refined detailing has driven us to refine our processes—from initial sketches and prototyping to final upholstery and finishing touches.
Images from the collaboration capture the essence: sculptural lines meeting plush comfort, rich textures, and bespoke detailing that make each sofa a character in its own right. This August, we celebrate Janet Joan Interior Design and the women who lead and shape our industry. Here’s to the ideas that challenge, the partnerships that empower, and the furniture that makes spaces feel alive.
