Haldane Martin: The Plat-O Collection

Introducing the Plat-O Table Collection by Haldane Martin Design. Coming from the noun “plateau” meaning an area of level high ground, these sleek, expansive surfaces are supported by the upward gesture of slanted, geometric pedestal bases.

Scrupulously crafted in Cape Town, it is fitting that through artful conception Haldane Martin’s new collection is reminiscent of the iconic plateau of Table Mountain.

The striking Plat-O tables are both elegant and bold – a cultured step beyond the humble kitchen table. Plat-O is the perfectly cosmopolitan collection for contemporary homes, stylish cafes, restaurants and sophisticated work environments that we have all been waiting for.

“The table is a meeting place, a gathering ground, the source of sustenance and nourishment, festivity, safety, and satisfaction” says Laurie Colwin – The acclaimed American writer best known for her portrayals of New York society and her food columns in Gourmet magazine. In modern times, with a growing hunger for authentic social interaction and belonging, these functional furnishings are as beautified by their role as they are by their aesthetic appeal. Characteristically Haldane Martin, the Plat-O table collection encapsulates beauty while preserving simplicity and authenticity through iconic design.

Svelte, smooth surfaces manifest space, reminiscent of its’ namesake – the plateau. The Plat-O table tops come formed in geometric soft shapes with round and flat oval surfaces. The collection incorporates multiple sizes. They vary from elegant 2-seater cafe tables for intimate dining, to encompassing generous 12-seater dining tables. Thoughtful variants within the collection include a stunning server table that would make an excellent feature in a boutique hotel or luxury home as well as a functional and dashing bar table for high-end hospitality environments.

The Plat-O table tops are offered in both luxurious stone quartz and scandi, versatile Birch plywood.

The opulent, large format quartz stone slabs bring a lavish palatial sensuality to any upscale interior. While the contemporary Birch plywood tops offer simple visual impact. The Birch plywood tops can be left natural or stained in a selection of colours, then sprayed with a closed grain, high-wearing, matt polyurethane finish leaving the surfaces protected and stimulating to the touch.

Strikingly geometric, the Plat-O tables’ distinctive pedestal bases are laser cut from cold rolled mild steel plate and assembled with hidden TIG welds. An exquisite palette of in vogue powder-coating colours accentuate the impressive clean geometry of the pedestal bases. The UV stable pure polyester powder-coating has a luxurious ferro grain finish for a sophisticated and refined feel on the stark ultramodern steel.

Because the range is locally manufactured, they are able to offer customers full customization from specified sizes, shapes (rectangular and square) and bespoke finishes.
