Designer Tips for Styling Your coffee table
Spruce up your living room with a personalised coffee table display to complement the interior and your unique design style. Follow these top tips to help you get the designer look and add balance to your home with superior styling advice.
1. Add interest
When styling a coffee table, include a mix of items with different textures and colours to add visual appeal and interest to your space. Whether books, a vase with flowers, coasters or magazines, be sure that the selected items complement the surrounding design of the room, without distracting from the overall theme.
2. Balance is key
When selecting items for your coffee table display, remember to keep the balance in mind. You don’t want the table to appear cluttered with random objects.
3. Vary heights
Choose items with various heights, so that your coffee table doesn’t ‘fall flat’ and appear one-dimensional. For added height, you may want to stack books on one corner or add a taller vase for interest. Things will appear more eye-catching when they are not all on the same eye level.
4. Make seasonal swaps
Dress up your coffee table to suit the season you’re in and don’t be afraid to change out the decorative items every season. For Spring, fresh flowers will bring in the many splendours of nature to your living room, while you may want to add some holiday cheer during the Festive Season.
5. Things work better in threes…
This is a designer tip of note. If you’re not sure how to arrange your items, map out your coffee table into three distinct areas to assess where your items will look best. This is a great tip for longer, rectangular tables.
6. Green fingers
Add a small pot plant to bring some greenery indoors. The coffee table is the perfect spot to show off a small container plant or perhaps add fresh flowers. Just be sure to keep changing the flowers regularly – nothing can dampen the mood more than dying florals!
7. Use a Tray
A beautiful tray is a great way to keep all your precious items together while being displayed on your coffee table. Plus, a tray is great for anchoring the table and all those items that may otherwise appear to be ‘floating’ on their own.
