Jos and Leo Joos are the pair behind this thriving brand. We recently spoke to the team about how they continue to source the latest trends and translate these captivating ideas into beautiful spaces.
What’s your go-to classic colour choice?
“Greys used with the warm tones of wood are always a winner. We find that this is a versatile palette and can be toned down or warmed up depending on what current trends are driving.”
Is there a hotel, interior or building that most inspires your work?
“There is no one particular structure or interior that inspires. Very often there are design elements that strike a chord and are catalogued for future use. As a style we prefer a modern look that is tailored by the clients’ needs to ensure the design is relevant and user friendly.”
A place you love to visit?
“Locally Etosha ticks the boxes as there is so much in nature that inspires. The environment is almost tactile and the relative solitude hones one’s thoughts. Then of course, there are towns like Riebeek Kasteel where history and modern days give rise to eclectic design elements. Internationally, Bruges in Belgium is a firm favourite… the canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings.”
Where do you go to spot new styles?
“Pinterest – one has to go where one’s clients go! Plus it provides a very visual platform of trends. We also subscribe to a couple of architectural online digests and resources from around the world.”
Do you have a favourite restaurant?
“For a guaranteed good meal, we enjoy Cattle Baron Tygervalley Waterfront. Not only is it supporting local business but the meat courses are consistently brilliant and the ambience – either indoor or outdoor is easy and unpretentious. On holiday, we enjoy eating where the locals eat – The Shack in Struisbaai being a recent example of lekker local fare.”
Who or what is your biggest design influence?
“We pride ourselves on aesthetically pleasing practical design. Balance of proportions and symmetry need to work for each individual client and their specific needs.”
Any interesting projects you are working on?
“We are fortunate to be working on a variety of projects ranging from large scale residential apartments, corporate offices, luxury architecturally design homes and owner manager projects and enjoy the different energies they bring. A seaside mixed used residential apartment block, various homes in winelands security lifestyle villages and have recently finished the AXIS apartment block in Century City.”
From kitchens to bathrooms, bedrooms and even customised living spaces, Joos Joiners are here to transform your home and make you fall in love with your house again!
