Tom Dixon’s Mua Mua Hotel Redefines Design Presentation at Milan Design Week
A hotel, rather than a showroom, became the setting for Tom Dixon’s latest presentation at this year’s Milan Design Week. With the unveiling of the Mua Mua Hotel – a 12-room micro hotel – the designer reframed how his AW26 collections are encountered, placing them within the context of everyday life rather than a traditional exhibition format.
Set within the historic Mulino Estate on Via Aosta, originally designed in 1929 by Chiodi and Gio Ponti, the space was transformed by Design Research Studio into a fully immersive environment. During Salone, the hotel operated as a temporary takeover, before transitioning into a permanent, fully operational destination, marking a continued shift in Dixon’s approach to Milan.
The AW26 collections, launching in stores from 1 September 2026, were presented room by room, integrated into the rhythm of the hotel. Across lighting, furniture, and accessories, the pieces explored materiality and form with clarity and intent, from the rich tones of the BELL Portable and MILL lighting designs in Burgundy to the sculptural presence of CAST iron objects, SMASH tables, and BOULDER marble vases. Lighting designs such as WHIRL Copper and FLARE pendants further reinforced the brand’s ongoing dialogue between innovation and craftsmanship.
This setting allowed the collections to exist in context, blurring the boundaries between exhibition, retail, and hospitality. Guests moved through spaces designed for sleeping, working, gathering, and unwinding – experiencing each piece as part of a broader narrative around contemporary living.
Established in 2002, the Tom Dixon brand has built a global presence across London, New York, and Shanghai, with a design language rooted in British sensibility and material experimentation. At Mua Mua, that language extended beyond objects to consider place, experience, and the evolving role of design in everyday life.
