Malabar: 3 Ways To Rock the Maximalism Trend

Freeform shapes, adventurous colours, and bold patterns come together to conquer 2021 interiors and highlight the maximalism trend in your décor space. Here are 3 ways to rock this trend in your home, with some of our favourite pieces from Malabar.

MAK SUH MUH dining chair

Postmodern Upholstery

Playing with vivid colours and bold shapes, Malabar Future Classics designers conceived the playful, artsy, and extravagant Mak Suh Muh Dining Chair for the Future Classics collection.

The Postmodernism movement is notoriously difficult to define. This elusive design style was a reaction against the utopian ideals of modernism. Over two decades this art movement established ideas about art and design, bringing a new self-awareness about style itself.

Exclusively handcrafted in walnut wood by expert artisans, the Mak Suh Muh dining chair is upholstered in different cotton velvet colours and patterns. Abandoning all the rules there is an expression of freedom from rules with mixing patterns and shapes. This postmodern dining chair thus provides a new way of looking at the interior design world, where authenticness is the key. Artfully designed, the Mak Suh Muh will be the style statement of any room!

Artful Lookers

The notion of joy in life has inspired countless philosophers, artists, and other thinkers throughout the centuries. One of the most provocative Surrealists of his time, Paul Delvaux creates a spirit in his painting that is not particularly joyful. Inspired by the evocation of a more psychological reflection on a couple’s life joys of the painting, where hands touch, Malabar designers conceived this art looker La Joie Mirror.

To be attached vertically to the walls, the oval La Joie mirror creates a play of reflections and light. It is handmade in polished brass and aged bronze mirror. Furthermore, this aesthetical mirror design hits the headlines as a fashionable must-have when it comes to contemporary interiors and ornamental roles.

Cubism Patterns

In terms of art, Pablo Picasso is probably the most important artist of the 20th Century. The Spanish-born painter had become well-known for his most distinct style and eye for artistic creation.

A confluence of influences from Cézanne and Henri Rousseau to tribal art encouraged Picasso to lend his figures more weight and structure. That’s when Cubism was born through his creations, and Picasso changed the direction of art for generations to come.

Inspired by the emphasised combination of forms in Picasso’s cubism art paintings, his use of colour and geometrical figures, Malabar designers imagined this exquisite and refined art piece – the Ih Maj In.

The Ih Maj In cabinet is a tribute to craftsmanship, embellished with a cubism-inspired drawing made with exotic wood veneers, such as white bleached oak, American walnut, black stained ashwood, through a marquetry technique.

Supported by two handcrafted legs, cylindrical walnut wood, and rectangular oak legs, the Ih Maj In cabinet interior is made of oak with high gloss coloured translucent varnish.

This future design icon makes a playfully surprising statement in an art-filled living or dining room.

IN VIJ EN center table

After inventing Analytic Cubism, Picasso kept experimenting, helping invent what became known as Synthetic Cubism. With a collage look, its new paintings feature new textures, simpler shapes, and new materials, and Synthetic Cubism was considered the height of the avant-garde.

The In Vij En center table is a tribute to craftsmanship, embellished with a cubism-inspired drawing made with several sheets, such as bleached oak, oak, black stained ashwood, and walnut wood through marquetry technique. Furthermore, it is supported by two handcrafted feet with cylindrical walnut wood, and rectangular black stained ashwood. The art-inspired In Vij En center table will thus engage your decor as a piece of art.
