Dream View Bench: New View, New Perspectives
Every so often, a piece of design emerges that doesn’t just serve a function; it reframes the way we experience our surroundings. From Muuto, the Scandinavian brand known for its forward-thinking approach to contemporary living, comes the Dream View Bench, crafted in Denmark by designer Lise Vester. Sculptural yet quietly poetic, its smooth, ergonomic curves follow the body’s natural posture, gently guiding the gaze upward and inviting rare moments of stillness in a world that seldom pauses.
Rooted in Vester’s belief in sensory design – the idea that form, material, and experience can enhance well-being – the bench transforms the simple act of sitting into an opportunity for reflection. Made from brushed stainless steel, it integrates seamlessly into everyday environments while subtly interrupting routine, creating pockets of calm and curiosity.
Available in two sizes, the 60cm version offers intimate solitude for individual contemplation, while the 100cm version invites two people to lean back, look up, and share a moment of quiet connection. Outdoors, the bench becomes even more expressive, its softly reflective surface mirroring shifting clouds, changing light, and skyborne colour.
“The sky is always there – vast, steady, and available, if only we remember to look,” Vester reflects. Designed by the sea, the bench’s form began with her mapping her natural seated curve in sand, refining the shape through hands-on testing until it felt innately human.
Indoors or out, the Dream View Bench reads as a sculptural prompt: to breathe, to look upward, to rediscover the beauty above eye level.
Locally, Muuto is available through Barker Street, South Africa’s destination for premium international furniture and expert interior planning.
