Curating fine vintage-inspired interiors with Cube Gallery and Vitra.
Far more than just four walls and a roof, a house is a home filled with memories and treasured items, it is a vessel for our lives, both past and present.
As such, it is often the homes with interiors that have been years in the making that are the most interesting. Those homes with a piece of furniture from here or an artwork from there – the homes that have been collected and curated over many, many years.
One such story-rich home is the home of Karin and Xavier Donck, an interior designer and architect.
“We collect a lot of things,” the couple says. “When we visit a city, we look for special pieces and always purchase something. Sometimes we both fall in love with a work of art or a piece of furniture, a nice object or a plant. Once acquired, these pieces move and circulate, migrating through the house.”
All of these found pieces have now been masterfully curated in their home in Belgium alongside new designer pieces from Vitra.
In a similar style vein, these more contemporary pieces don’t fight for attention but rather blend in harmoniously, making the vintage pieces shine even brighter.
The couple especially loves the work of Jean Prouvé and has included choice pieces by the designer in their scheme.
These include the EM Table, Tabouret Métallique and Fauteuil de Salon by Jean Prouvé. As well as other more quirky pieces from Vitra including the Eames House Bird and Alexander Girard’s Wooden Dolls.
“Every object has its own story. The more objects you have from all over the world, the more stories you bring into your home,” the couple concludes.
Vitra is available locally at Cube Gallery.
