Blackwood House: A Forest Sanctuary in Hout Bay | Perfect Hideaways

Perched above the Hout Bay valley and cradled by the Constantia forests, Blackwood House is no ordinary retreat – it’s a glass-fronted, steel-framed reverie suspended in nature. Wrapped in towering trees and dappled light, this architecturally bold yet warmly inviting home blurs the line between inside and out.

Industrial elements – matte black finishes, polished steel, and sculptural lighting – meet the softness of organic textures, curated art, and lush gardens.

Designed with intention by Shirley Wayne and her celebrated firm, every space at Blackwood House reflects a deep connection to place, craftsmanship, and creativity. From the open-plan kitchen to the sun-drenched living spaces, the home is a fluid, ever-inspiring canvas of curated comfort and contemporary design.

Generous suites spill out across mezzanine levels, fireplaces punctuate every communal zone, and a sprawling deck invites languid afternoons above the canopy. Outdoors, a sparkling pool mirrors the movements of the birds, while firepits and garden paths promise sensory exploration from sunrise to starlight.

There’s a playful rhythm to life here – billiards in the evenings, long lunches on the terrace, barefoot garden strolls with a mug of something warm. And when it’s time to retreat indoors, freestanding bathtubs and indulgent soft furnishings await.

Whether you’re exploring Constantia’s vineyards, wandering Chapman’s Peak, or simply soaking in the mountain air from your treetop perch, Blackwood House offers a sanctuary where creativity flows, time stretches, and life feels beautifully, blissfully unhurried.

Blackwood House can accommodate up to 12 guests across four bedrooms and bathrooms, and is available to rent through Perfect Hideaway .
