Restaurant Week: And the winners are…

Continuing its growing curve, Restaurant Week South Africa saw over 11,000 guests making their way to the 100 participating top restaurants during their Autumn Edition last week. With 632 reviews in total with ratings for cuisine, service and ambiance, we can conclude that guests truly enjoyed celebrating the flavours of Autumn! After crunching the numbers, it is with great pleasure that Restaurant Week South Africa can now also announce the best performing restaurants of the Restaurant Week South Africa 2017 Autumn Edition…

The Best Dish Award Autumn 2017: Black Bamboo in Pretoria

Beautiful plating won Black Bamboo the Best Dish Award

From all pictures that were shared on social media using the hashtag #BestDish, 10 pictures were selected as finalists and uploaded for a final voting round on Facebook. Although the 10 finalists (Myoga, Reuben’s at One&Only, View Restaurant, EB Social Kitchen & Bar, Culinary Table, Diemersdal, Farm Eatery, FABER, Glenda’s, oneNINEone) clearly all master the art of plating, it was the Salted Caramel Parfait from Executive Chef Pellie Grobler of the Black Bamboo in Pretoria that got the most likes in the #bestdish competition. The best dish had 40% of the votes, and scooped the Best Dish Autumn 2017.

Previous winners of the Best Dish Award are Athol Place (Spring 2016), Kitima (Autumn 2016), Marc’s Table (2015), The Restaurant at Newton Johnson (2014) and Central One (2013).

About the awards: During the Autumn Edition of Restaurant Week 2017 (from 20 April until 30 April), 100 participating restaurants designed a special menu and served this to Restaurant Week guests exclusively. Afterwards, every guest is invited to review the restaurant. To qualify for the Best Restaurant Award, we look at the highest average score with a minimum number of 20 reviews (except Durban because this city had less reviews). Contrary to most awards, the Restaurant Week South Africa Awards are therefore determined by diners and their experience during Restaurant Week, and not by a jury. This way we ensure that the lauded restaurants are restaurants where real people like to eat.

Restaurant Week looks forward to seeing you again in October 2017…
