As the owner and visionary behind acclaimed flooring brand, Oggie Hardwood Flooring, Nick Gluckman is passionate about quality craftsmanship and the beauty of wood. Hailing from a ‘flooring family’ he continues to invest his time and expertise in developing superior flooring solutions and making a difference in the world of sustainable design.

Let’s meet the hero behind the brand…

Nick, how would you describe yourself?

I’m straight-talking, protective, and generous. Though my wife would probably describe me as a “good delegator”… I love being my own boss and visionary for Oggie – as well as being a husband and father to my little angel Stella.  I cook dinner every night for the family. Our home has an open-door policy and I love having my closest friends over. We love a full home adding to the 3 dogs and 3 cats.

How did you start your business?

Flooring was in the family. After school I joined my dad’s carpet business as a Carpet Salesman. For 7 years I cut my teeth here, manually measuring people’s floors and driving to sales appointments all over East London and Cape Town. By chance, I got involved in a project for wood and could see the potential for this.

Oggie began when I was able to get funding for my first container of wood – which I quickly sold as the only salesperson for Oggie. After 2 years of working with only a receptionist, Oggie has slowly grown into the stronghold that it is now – employing over 60 staff nationwide and delivering luxury and high-quality products and services. My first sales executive is still with us 13 years later!

What do you think contributes to your business success?

Oggie has grown to be the largest importer of real oak flooring and Thermowood decking and cladding in Africa.

I believe Oggie is where it is now because of 4 things: excellent customer service, investing in employees, professional marketing and never compromising on product quality.
