Blending Stone, Wood, and Carpet: Teck Flooring & Wanabiwood Take On a Unique Challenge

When Cape Town’s Teck Flooring received the brief for a prestigious commercial space, the client requested a unique blend of three elements: a stone-inspired look, the warmth of wood, and the comfort of carpet. Achieving this balance of textures and materials was no small feat, but Teck Flooring brought innovation and expertise to the challenge.

The Vision

The design brief outlined a vision that integrated the sophistication of stone, the timeless appeal of wood, and the practicality of carpet. Each element needed to contribute to the functionality and aesthetic of the space, while also standing up to high foot traffic and daily use. Teck Flooring, known for pushing boundaries in flooring design, immediately saw an opportunity to create something exceptional.

Selecting the Perfect Materials

To bring this vision to life, Teck Flooring turned to Wanabiwood, whose extensive range of quality products offered the flexibility and durability required. After exploring options, they settled on three key products that met the brief perfectly:

Wanabiwood’s Classic LVT: A luxury vinyl tile with a 2.5mm thickness and a 0.5mm wear layer. This tile brings the elegant look of wood while being highly durable and easy to maintain.

New Echotile: Another 2.5mm LVT, but with a slightly thicker 0.55mm wear layer. With a 15-year commercial warranty, this tile replicates the sophistication of stone, ensuring both style and resilience.

Flotex Carpet Tile: Known as one of the world’s most durable carpets, Flotex can be customized and is available in a broad range of standard colors as well as bespoke designs. Notably, top designers, including Stark, have created exclusive patterns for Flotex, and it can be produced to meet exact specifications starting from as little as 50 square meters.

The Art of Installation: Curves, Lines, and Geometric Patterns

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was meeting the geometric and architectural demands of the space. The installation required precision in every line and curve, with each material needing to integrate seamlessly into the next. Teck Flooring’s team skillfully balanced these elements, creating a pattern that is both eye-catching and cohesive, combining sleek, curved forms with geometric precision.

Long-Lasting Beauty and Ease of Maintenance

Beyond aesthetics, durability and maintenance were crucial considerations. Both Classic LVT and New Echotile boast easy upkeep, essential for a bustling commercial environment. Meanwhile, Flotex carpet offers unmatched resilience and hygiene benefits, as its unique structure is designed to repel dirt and stains. The flooring choices ensure this space will maintain its stunning look with minimal effort for years to come.

A Result That’s Turning Heads

This exceptional installation has given the client a one-of-a-kind flooring solution that combines beauty, functionality, and longevity. Teck Flooring and Wanabiwood have not only met the client’s expectations but created a space that’s sure to spark conversation and admiration.

With this project, Teck Flooring has once again proven its ability to pull off ambitious, multi-material installations with finesse, setting a new standard for commercial flooring in Cape Town.
