Moso Africa Celebrates 10 Years of Sustainable Innovation
Moso Africa is proud to mark its 10th anniversary as a leader in sustainable bamboo solutions for Southern Africa. Since its establishment in October 2015, the company has been at the forefront of delivering high-performance MOSO® Bamboo products to some of the region’s most iconic and environmentally-conscious projects—from corporate headquarters and luxury hotels to eco-lodges and boardwalks.
Born from a joint venture with global bamboo innovator MOSO® International, Moso Africa (Pty) Ltd. has grown to serve a wide regional footprint. With offices in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, and an established distributor network, the company ensures efficient supply of MOSO® Bamboo decking, cladding, beams, panels, and flooring throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
A Sustainable Shift in Construction
At the core of Moso Africa’s mission is a commitment to sustainability. Bamboo, the fastest-growing plant on Earth, offers a viable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional building materials. Capable of growing up to one metre a day and ready for harvest in just 4–5 years, bamboo presents a renewable solution that avoids deforestation while maintaining natural biodiversity.
MOSO®’s advanced production methods enhance bamboo’s strength and durability, allowing it to stand up to high traffic and extreme weather conditions. This has made MOSO® Bamboo the preferred choice for a variety of standout projects—including the East Pier boardwalk at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, the Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, and a number of safari lodges seeking to blend luxury with sustainability.
Building for a Greener Future
“Visitors to luxury wilderness lodges increasingly expect lodges to be constructed and operated in more sustainable ways, aligning with their love for nature and the natural surroundings of the lodge,” says Andy Paige, Managing Director of Moso Africa. “The environmental benefits of materials like bamboo help guests to understand that lodges take their eco-vision seriously.”
To commemorate this 10-year milestone, the Moso Africa team has curated a list of ten exceptional projects that reflect the elegance, durability, and versatility of bamboo. Each one underscores how bamboo can deliver not only in performance, but in design and environmental responsibility.
“Even after many years and many amazing projects that have used MOSO® Bamboo products, I still get completely awestruck by the creativity and skill of the architects and designers who create projects like these,” Paige concludes.
As Moso Africa looks to the future, its decade-long track record serves as a testament to what’s possible when innovation meets sustainability.
