Flooring Trends To Expect in 2022 and Beyond
Not all flooring is equal. Some of the most popular options over the past decade remain at the top because they bring both quality and style to a room. So when it comes to planning your floors and following the latest styles, it’s important to know which looks will offer timeless appeal. Here we share a few of our favourite flooring trends that you can expect to see more of in 2022 and beyond.
According to TrendBible, 2022 will see consumers make a renewed investment in their home environments as they seek to decelerate their current pace of living. In the wake of a recession, social unrest and a global pandemic, consumers are driven by a need for optimism and joyfulness. Flooring trends follow in this same vein, with warm tones that evoke comfort, warmth and depth underfoot. Luxury vinyl, laminate wood and carpet are three of the more popular choices, and rightly so.
When it comes to materials, wood and wood-look flooring are worthy investments for the home. Luxury vinyl tiles offer the look of real wood but with less maintenance and a lower price tag. You can achieve a custom look with these installed in your home. Trending options also include innovative layouts like herringbone. We’re sure to see more of this layout in 2022 as homeowners think out of the box regarding their choice of finishes.
When it comes to herringbone flooring, there are a few things to consider to get the look just right. The blocks need to be laid so that they inter-lock in a diagonal pattern, giving the room visual direction. This helps to draw the eye in a particular way. Most commonly, the points of a herringbone pattern floor are laid parallel to a room’s longest wall, or towards the window. It’s a timeless look that can also create a flooring focal point in a space.
What about colours?
Colour trends come and go, but when it comes to wood flooring, a few key looks are hot on trend this season. This includes:
Bleached wood
For a chilled-out, relaxing, and rustic ambience at home. With more people embracing an eco-chic style of living, bleached wood tones are a winner. It brings both a sense of texture and tone to a space. Lighter wooden tones can also help to brighten up a contemporary environment.
Honey / Copper hues
Bring richness to your room with beautiful wood flooring that echoes a honey / copper tone for added warmth. It’s a wonderful addition to a large open plan space and allow for balance and symmetry.
Smokey tones
Ideal in an urban or contemporary retreat, smokey toned floors offer a little added drama underfoot. We love that these pair well with a mix of textures and design schemes.

August 31, 2021What are the “rules” for bathroom flooring now? We are about to replace all the flooring in our 19 yr old home. When we built, we put down bathroom flooring that looked like bathroom floor. We’re probably going to go with a LVT that looks like hardwood, but are people putting that in bathrooms too? This is our forever home, so we’re not concerned with resale. But we want to update it tastefully and make it more current.
