Africotta Handmade Outdoor Tiles for Patios & Decks
As the days stretch longer and the weather turns, Africotta turns its attention outdoors — to the patios, decks, and terraces where people most want to spend their time, and to making them spaces that feet genuinely crave to walk across.
Africotta, the handcrafted cement tile manufacturer that has been pressing, curing, and finishing every tile by hand in Bloemfontein since 1986, believes there is a particular kind of magic in an outdoor space that has been done properly. A patio that glows at sunrise. A sea-facing deck where a freestanding bath meets an open horizon. A terrace that holds the last of the evening light long after the sun has dropped below the water. October is the month to create exactly these spaces, with handmade outdoor tiles.
The surface underfoot is where it all begins
Laid in a warm herringbone across an open deck, Africotta’s handcrafted tiles bring rhythm, texture, and soul in a way no factory-pressed tile can. Every tile is subtly different from the next, catching the coastal light softly and becoming part of the sunrise and the sunset — cool underfoot in the morning, warm and glowing by evening. This is flooring that invites people to slow down, breathe out, and simply be.
This October, two of Africotta’s most-loved outdoor tiles are on promotional pricing. The Subway 360 (300×60mm) — long, slim, and beautifully proportioned — moves effortlessly across patios and decks in running bond, herringbone, or vertical stack. Running alongside it, the Kleine Klompie (230×35mm) — slim, characterful, and made for herringbone patios, borders, and the considered detail work that quietly finishes a space.
Both tiles are drawn from Africotta’s signature palette of handmade colours, from soft, sun-washed neutrals to the deep, sun-baked warmth of Terracotta and the rich glow of Copper Terracotta — earthy tones that sit as naturally against a coastline as they do a courtyard. These handmade outdoor tiles bring warmth and character to outdoor spaces.
A note for the design community: the Africotta Installation of the Year 2026 competition is drawing to a close, with entries open until 25 November 2026 and the winner announced on 5 December 2026. A R50,000 cash prize awaits the most beautiful installation, judged by Marcia Margolius, Marlene van Rooyen, and Christopher de Bod.
Making the outside beautiful this October. Feet will thank those who give them somewhere beautiful to land.
