A Contemporary Bryanston Reno Gets The Deluxe Italtile Touch

There’s nothing quite like a well-executed renovation, with gorgeous new tiles and fittings, to take your home feels from “like” to “love”, but without guidance, renovation can be an upheaval for a family with young children. Recently, Edward Smith, one of Italtile Bryanston’s interior design-certified consultants, helped ease the process of a major reimagining for a large family home in a leafy Bryanston Estate.

The homeowner presented Edward with some challenges. The structure suffered from minor damp problems, and the tiles throughout the house were uninspiring and old, dating back to the original build. (The small 40x40s are notoriously high maintenance because of cheap, porous surfaces and multiple grout lines.) An update with fresh, low maintenance ideas was desperately needed, post damp-proofing, to suit the Bryanston family, masses of books, and the characterful family cat!

Edward helped mood board what he terms “Luxury Laidback Beach House”. It’s a contemporary, low maintenance, easy-living look: a calm and soothing base canvas of pale, greige wood tones with a raw, bleached timber feel across the living areas. Layered over this are ivory textures, some soft blue patterning with a touch of terracotta, and sanware and accessories with clean, elegant lines. The scene was set for a gentle and soothing 21st century sanctuary, ready to feature a selection of Italtile’s imported and locally manufactured LiveGreen products.

Edward helped achieve a unified floor scape throughout the home by utilizing one floor tile: the uber-deluxe imported Maryland Haya matt glazed porcelain tile. This is a soft and subtly-grained eco-chic tile with an authentic ash-grey brown timber look and feel. It’ll wear well, and, with its maintenance-free finish, take years of fairly punishing family use.

Walls have been given a soft ivory tone and subtly rippled texture with imported Prospect Crown Ivory matt glazed white bodied ceramic décor tiles. This rectified, decorative tile offers a near seamless finish with almost invisible joins. It creates an eye-catching feature wall with beautifully textured ‘touchability’.

All four bathrooms have been transformed into relaxing, dreamy spaces. They feature our mini marvels: Galaxy Inkjet Marble Patchwork mosaic tiles by Global Stone, leaders in eco-chic glass and stone mosaic design and manufacture. These little bits of beautiful are a modern take on decorative, patterned patchwork, with soft blues and touches of ivory and terracotta in graphics, florals and geometrics.

Locally manufactured Dado Nova Ovalo matt white countertop basins were chosen, as well as the Soria Hibernian Bench Floor Cabinet with a soft close draw lined in a smart tartan. (FYI, the draw can withstand 80 000 open-close ‘movements’ in its life; how’s that for kid-proofing?) To complement the look, Edward suggested Soria Cambrian floating shelves in hearty oak grain finish, to ‘hover’ above the hard-as-a-rock DadoQuartz Nova Ovalo sinks.

The new wall-hung loos from the Laufen Pro range are pieces of Swiss perfection. The rimless feature allows for easy cleaning, with a surface that offers no hiding places for germs. One of the baths selected is the stunning Athena built-in bath, a perfect example of local eco-luxe style. The finishing touches include bold, square Caserta mixers by Tivoli, and Dominus accessories – which are exclusive to Italtile.

The renovation journey from OK to outstanding was completed with the minimum of turmoil for the family, with major kudos to Professional Oncall Installations Teams. As satisfied customers, they could kick back and relax in a calming, contemporary space that will bring them joy for years to come.
