SA Décor & Design caught up with Sasha Kozinsky, Managing Director of FINfloor SA, to find out more about the thinking behind these specification tools, the growing role of BIM and why combining digital resources with physical samples can create a more seamless journey from concept to completion.

1. FINfloor has recently launched its BIM Files and Architect Box. What inspired this initiative, and what impact do you hope it will have?

“We identified a need for resources that combine accurate technical information with the physical experience of flooring. Our BIM Files allow products to be incorporated during the design phase, while the Architect Box lets specifiers assess the actual colour, texture and finish.

Together, these tools make flooring specification simpler, more accurate and more collaborative.”

2. What does the Architect Box include, and how does it assist specifiers?

“The box contains a curated selection of FINfloor laminate, vinyl and engineered wood samples, supported by relevant product and technical information.

It allows architects and designers to compare flooring with cabinetry, paint, stone and fabrics, while helping clients see and feel the proposed product before making a final decision.”

3. What are the biggest challenges architects face when specifying flooring?

“The main challenge is balancing design with performance, traffic levels, installation methods and maintenance requirements.

FINfloor’s LOD 300 BIM Files are available in Revit and IFC formats, allowing products to be integrated directly into project models. This gives the project team consistent technical information, while the Architect Box confirms the product’s aesthetic suitability.”

4. How do BIM Files improve collaboration and project delivery?

“BIM places reliable product information within the environment where design and coordination decisions are made. Architects, designers, quantity surveyors, contractors and installers can work from a more consistent source, reducing misunderstandings and specification errors.

It also allows factors such as product thickness, transitions and installation requirements to be addressed earlier, supporting smoother project delivery.”

5. What excites you about the future of flooring specification?

“I am excited by a more connected specification journey, where inspiration, technical information, digital tools and physical samples work seamlessly together. FINfloor will continue to expand its BIM library, specification resources, product solutions, sample support, and CPD presentations.
