Design Joburg: One-on-One With Sumari Krige
We chat with interior designer and décor retailer Sumari Krige about the Rooms on View aspect of Design Joburg and what she has planned for her La Grange Interiors stand at the show.
Sumari founded Rooms on View in 2000. Over the years the show has grown into SA’s benchmark décor and design exhibition. Last year the show joined forces with Media 10’s maiden Design Joburg. From 25 to 27 May 2018, Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View, will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into the African continent’s preferred décor and design destination.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show?
I’m really excited to see the new collaborations. This year they’re entitled CoLabs, and these key features at the show will be pushing the bar. Expect fresh perspectives from designers like Heather Boting and Erica Schalkwyk.
Now in its second year, what most excites you about the collaboration between Design Joburg and Rooms on View?
The response from the public, as well as the design industry, to last year’s show, has been phenomenal and very encouraging for all involved. The collaboration between these two brands generates exciting new ideas and truly pushes the boundaries of local design.
What can visitors expect from La Grange Interiors this time?
A fabulous eclectic showcase of some of our latest furniture designs in the finest French fabrics by Casamance.
Last year your monochromatic stand made quite an impact, can you share details of what you have planned for this year?
This year we have decided to embrace the concept of blending indoor and outdoor living. Warm sepia hues mixed up with deep petrol greens and blues…. as bold and daring as the monochromatic tones of last year, this is taking it to the next level. We want to nudge our clients out of their comfort zones. We are embracing colour in all its glory… something La Grange is maybe less known for.
Are you launching any new La Grange products?
We will be launching a new sofa, three new armchairs and the new Salk Desk by District Eight Design.
What décor item or style is on your radar right now?
My design heroine at the moment would have to be India Mahdavi and her insanely masterful use of colour. She is the reigning queen of colour and quirk.
La Grange Interiors continues to set the benchmark for design and beautiful interiors in South Africa. Here are just a few of our top finds of the season now available through this renowned brand:
