An Overview Design Joburg featuring Rooms on View
Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View is presented by Sanlam Private Wealth, and set out to flip the traditional notion of an exhibition on its head, and they’ve succeeded. With this year’s new Creative Directors Philippe van der Merwe and Greg Gamble, of Tonic fame, steering the show, visitors can expect a refreshing injection to the established order.
Once again, South Africa’s best designers, architects and style shapers will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into Africa’s hotspot for the most innovative and covetable interiors.
This year’s visitors will notice the show’s progressive layout change, which will ensure that every inch of the space offers a hotbed of intriguing and inspiring décor and design.

The thrilling headline addition to the show, and hands down our biggest news, will undoubtedly be the KOHLER Design Forum. This auditorium space, designed by the show’s creative directors and leading flooring brand Belgotex, will host internationally acclaimed designers Michael Anastassiades and Yinka Ilori – courtesy of SA Tourism and KOHLER respectively. On the opening day, Friday, 24 May, Yinka Ilori together with local and continental leaders in the industry are participating in a forum discussion on “Experiential Luxury”. The programme for the rest of the weekend will then host local and continental design luminaries, all of whom will share their insights by way of not-to-be-missed talks and presentations. With full access to local and global design luminaries, KOHLER Design Forum visitors are in for a treat.

One of the show’s major differentiators, its CoLabs, will once again see stellar designers creating collaborative room sets using the wares of some of South Africa’s top drawer brands, artisans and suppliers. The line-up of designers this year includes Dylan Thomaz, Wendy Douglas, Fanie van Zyl, Tuami Zulu, Nelson Kubheka, and Julia Day.

RETAIL CORRIDOR – Last year’s retail offering was a great success, proving that visitors are keen to shop the show! We’re pleased to announce that this year’s Retail Corridor will be located in the very heart of the show with a larger contingency of brands on board including KARE, Dark, Time Brandits, Culinary Equipment Company and ILVE. Expect a amalgam of décor accessories, kitchen supplies, lighting, clocks, ceramics and more.
RESTAURANT – This year, Design Joburg has teamed up with celebrated Sowetan-born chef Wandile Mabaso. He’s bringing something fresh to the show’s ‘food-design’ table. Locally-trained and New York-honed (with a flair for the French), Wandile’s menu promises to be a celebration of African-fusion.
