Dior’s new men’s beachwear capsule
Made with 96% recycled fabrics, Dior’s new men’s beachwear capsule collection
Is driving the company’s eco-innovation.
Created in collaboration with the nonprofit organisation, Parley for the Oceans, this is Dior’s second collection of the kind.
With more than 8 million tonnes of plastic waste and other trash ending up in oceans each year, Dior’s menswear artistic director Kim Jones decided to team up with the organisation to re-use the marine plastic debris to create more sustainable fashion. A move echoed by many other brands in an attempt to lessen consumer impact on the planet.
“Wearing a piece of Dior x Parley is an act of rebellion,” explains Parley for the Oceans CEO and founder Cyrill Gutsch. “It shows that you care dearly. It shows that you want to solve the environmental crisis we are facing, in a creative and optimistic way.”
While 96% of the fabrics used are upcycled what is even more impressive is that 59% is made of ocean plastic specifically, offering an innovative and green alternative to plastic debris ending up in landfills.
The collection, which draws inspiration from nature, consists of various beachwear pieces such as fleece jackets, cargo-style shirts and bucket hats in electric shades of coral and lemon, as well as camo and grey.
The collection also includes a Dior-branded surfboard and wetsuits.
“Together with Kim Jones and his fantastic team we have delivered the proof that driving the material revolution is not a sacrifice but answers to a new desire,” says Gutsch. “To protect the oceans, to protect our climate and to protect our future.”
