Mavromac: DE LE CUONA
With love, from Africa.
An idea born of Africa, fabric house de Le Cuona was established in 1992 when South African-born entrepreneur Bernie de Le Cuona’s passion for discovery led her on travels across Africa, Belgium and India.
During her journeys, de Le Cuona discovered the many quality natural fibres and fine artisans at work across the regions. As she notes: “A love of linen and attention to detail first fired my desire to create beautiful fabrics”.
While travelling in Belgium, de Le Cuona was introduced to linen and the beauty of this robust yet gentle fabric. The versatility and ways linen can feel and be handled amazed her. The next stop was India, where she was inspired by the way Indian craftsmen produced silk – all weaving and finishing was done by hand. She immediately thought that the softening technique could be applied to linen.
With knowledge and inspiration plenty, she returned home to establish de Le Cuona driven by a passion for making linen fabrics unlike any the world has ever seen – wonderfully floppy, soft and textured. These textures, complemented by the distinctive colour palette inspired by Africa, made de Le Cuona’s collections truly unique.
Today, the luxury brand continues to showcase its passion for crafting luxury natural fibre fabrics and accessories, combining traditional techniques and craftsmanship with the latest technology to create the most striking fabrics.
Renowned for offering the finest fabrics, wallcoverings and decorative home furnishings, Mavromac is the trusted local distributor for prestigious local and international brands such as Pierre Frey, Andrew Martin, Colefax and Fowler, Larsen Fabrics and De Gournay.
