Beehive Studios
Handcrafted textiles inspired by heritage.
Inspired by iconic 19th-century British textile designer, William Morris, Beehive Studios stands as a beacon of sustainable craftsmanship and community development. This unique establishment seamlessly integrates history, art and a deep-rooted sense of social responsibility, creating exclusively designed, handprinted textiles that are not just decorative home accessories but symbols of hope and change.
From aprons, napkins and potholders to tote bags and tablecloths, the West Coast-based studio crafts beautiful pieces, each infused with the maker’s dreams and aspirations.
At the heart of Beehive Studios is an initiative that began with a humble aim: to offer local women, especially mothers, a skills-training program at the Steilhoogte Primary School located near Vredendal.
These women have become the proud director-owners of Namaqua Hand Printed Textiles, which manufactures many of Beehive Studio’s items.
While they take care of the making, Beehive Studios takes care of the distribution, marketing and product innovation.
Their product range, made of 100 percent organic hemp fabric, cotton and linen, boasts eco-friendly credentials.
Hemp, a predominant fabric in their lineup, is celebrated for its durability, breathability, and biodegradability.
In addition, each handprinted product has its unique charm, characterised by subtle variations and nuances that add to its authenticity.
Beehive Studios’ products also proudly feature original calligraphy art designed by the artist Heleen de Haas from Die Letterhuis. These bespoke calligraphy prints, laden with artistic flair, are available on demand, weaving a tapestry of heritage and modern design.
