Colefax & Fowler Introduces Pendine: Timeless English Country House Style Reimagined
English country houses have long been celebrated for their wonderfully layered interiors, where floral prints sit alongside richly textured fabrics, embroidered cushions and furniture collected over generations. It’s a decorating style that embraces pattern, colour, and character, and continues to inspire contemporary interiors.
For its latest collection, Colefax & Fowler draws on this rich decorative heritage with Pendine, a beautiful new range of prints, embroideries and woven fabrics.
The collection draws on centuries of English textile design, bringing together botanical motifs, atmospheric woodland scenes, intricate arabesques, and characterful weaves. Historic references range from Jacobean crewelwork and antique embroidered hangings to Indian palampores, traditional English chintzes, Bargello needlework and British landscape paintings.
But while the inspiration is rooted in history, the designs feel wonderfully suited to modern homes. Traditional motifs have been reworked through scale, spacing and colour, giving the fabrics a softer, more relaxed appearance without losing the detail and craftsmanship that make them so appealing.
Colour is an important part of the collection’s charm. Mineral blues, aqua and slate sit alongside leaf green, olive and celadon, while warmer shades of parchment, flax and stone create a beautifully balanced foundation. Occasional touches of tomato and berry add richness, deepening the quieter colours.
The palette feels as though it developed naturally over time, recalling the gently faded colours of antique textiles and well-loved interiors.
Texture adds another dimension. Richly embroidered botanicals sit alongside decorative weaves, luxurious linens and the tactile warmth of Scottish wool, creating plenty of opportunities to combine different materials and patterns within the same room.
And that’s really where Pendine comes into its own. The collection is designed for layering, whether you’re adding a patterned cushion to a favourite armchair, choosing embroidered fabric for curtains, or combining several designs to create a richer interior.
With its varied pattern scales and complementary colours, the range makes it easy to mix traditional references with contemporary furniture and finishes, building a room that feels personal rather than overly coordinated.
Available through Mavromac, South Africa’s distributor of leading international fabric houses and creator of the local MAVROMAC SOUTH brand, Pendine brings Colefax & Fowler’s distinctive English decorating style to South African interiors.
It’s a lovely reminder that traditional patterns needn’t feel old-fashioned. With the right colours, textures and combinations, they can bring warmth, personality and a wonderful sense of history into the homes we live in today.
