Spotlight Ambiente Trends 2024

Running from 26 to 30 January at Messe Frankfurt, Ambiente Trends 24+ will once again reveal the colours, shapes and materials that will shape the year ahead.

Reflecting the biggest up-and-coming trends in the consumer goods sector, Ambiente Trends 24+, with the help of bora.herke.palmisano (Claudia Herke, Cem Bora and Annetta Palmisano), will present three key trends this month: AURA OF PROGRESS_visionary + elemental; QUALITY OF SILENCE_pure + familiar; and SPIRIT OF CRAFT_bold + poetical.

The carefully curated selection will showcase not only the latest luxury products but also how improved recycling management has delivered exciting new aesthetic solutions, as well as how craftsmanship has been reinterpreted through digital innovations and 3D techniques.

“In uncertain times, it’s not about searching for a short-lived theme. Instead, Ambiente Trends picks up on important developments and continues them, each with its own focus,” says Annetta Palmisano, trend expert at trend bureau bora.herke.palmisano.

An unusual use of materials and colours, innovative technologies, elemental elements, a sustainable ethos and material alternatives or the multifaceted art of handicrafts set their own focal points this year. All living themes are united by a conciliatory perspective that preserves the familiar and welcomes the future.”

Palmisano goes on to explain that AURA OF PROGRESS_visionary + elemental highlights progressive ways of looking at things and the fascinating interplay of opposites with “archaic elements combining with hyper-innovative technology”, such as AI-supported design processes.

The trend includes a vibrant colour palette, from warm, vibrant hues like violet, intense solar yellow and glowing lava to cool, light-flooded shades of aqua and mineral tones and the use of strong materials, especially those with uneven surfaces, such as wood and stone. It is also characterised by conceptual fragrances and innovatively interpreted LED technology.

QUALITY OF SILENCE_pure + familiar, meanwhile, explores the simple and paired-back, reflecting the need for calm and clarity. 

Warm, tranquil and comforting, the trend focuses on holistic design, utilising natural material colours, natural and recycled materials, emphasising the principles of circular design and celebrating the aesthetics of everyday life.

Bold and modern, SPIRIT OF CRAFT_bold + poetical, on the other hand, combines diverse influences and colour palettes with striking shapes and a contemporary aesthetic to produce products that are at once unique, personal and durable.

Components of the trend include warm amber and brandy hues, chilli tones and neutral grays, as well as striking jewel-toned hues of lapis lazuli and turquoise. Craft skills along with old-world techniques and materials lend a definitive handmade quality to these pieces reimagined for 21st-century living such as ceramics with hand-worked structures and hand-painted motifs and “textiles and rugs take on objets d’art aesthetics, featuring elaborate handicraft techniques, confident patterns, and wide-area appliqués, creating products reminiscent of large-format graphics, collages, and reliefs”.

Ambiente Trends 2024 will run from 26 to 30 January at Messe Frankfurt, Germany.
