Decorex: Modern Interpretations of Timeless Bathroom Designs
When it comes to interior design, there is a growing trend towards perceiving the bathroom as a comfortable retreat rather than a mere utilitarian necessity. This enlightened view has brought with it a range of exquisite bathroom finishes, décor and style, set to take the stage this season.
The Bathroom Project
Winner of the Best Bathroom Stand at Decorex Cape Town, WOMAG will be curating two designer bathroom settings for this year’s Bathroom Project.
Commenting on incoming trends in the bathroom space, Oren Sachs MD of WOMAG, said: “Bold colours are certainly gaining momentum, specifically on the darker side of the colour spectrum. There’s a multitude of ways to incorporate this colour trend with amazing innovations in the large format porcelain field, but also embracing the dramatic contrasts and movements in natural stone. You can bring this in with tops for floating vanities, and embrace the natural elements with wood-look textures. This can be incorporated into the bathroom through porcelain wood-look tiles. It brings about a warmth and comfort to the interior.”
Mel Cook of Cooked Studio, who worked with WOMAG in designing the two bathrooms, added that that geometric shapes in general are a common theme throughout the 2019 bathroom design: “We’re seeing mirrors that reflect the geometric trend which are simplistic as opposed to fully-carpentered cabinets. Slim frames with rounded corners are also a big trend at the moment.”

Also bringing in their high-quality design to this year’s Bathroom Project is Victorian Bathrooms, a specialist supplier of luxury bathroom products.
Discussing the emerging trends, Joslyn Goodale Pickering of Victorian Bathrooms said there is a big move towards the ‘modern-classic’ design: “It encompasses a transitional style with the marriage of traditional and contemporary styles resulting in a classic, timeless design that is simple yet sophisticated.”
She said that visitors to this year’s Decorex Joburg would get to witness this prominent design style at the feature.
“Visitors can expect to see edgy designs paired with romantic tap fixtures, warm nickel finishes with dramatic black levers, and timeless and sophisticated products with innovative installations and plumbing technology,” said Goodale Pickering. “It will be a celebration of the best in classic design coming to life in a modern setting.”
