And The Winners of The 12 Izitulo Design Challenge Are…
Leon at CCXIX, in conjunction with St Leger & Viney, launched the 12 IZITULO Design Challenge at the beginning of 2017. The concept was to discover and encourage young and emerging design talent. From more than 140 entries received from every corner of the country, including Potchefstroom, Durban and Tshwane, 12 were chosen and their designs made up, with the winner finally being announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 28th September 2017.
The winners were chosen by the public following a 3-week social media campaign and voting at the Leon at CCXIX showroom in Woodstock.
LEFT TO RIGHT: Kriska Liebenberg’s ‘The Nesting Chair’ was chosen as the overall winner, with Brigitte Bielovich and her ‘Umhlaba Ottoman’ in second, whilst Lezandi Fourie with her ‘Lock & Lace’ chair taking third place.
Winner Kriska Liebenberg, who is studying interior design at CPUT, added: “What an amazing opportunity to be a part of this whole process and to see our designs come to life in this way.” ‘Girl power’ was clearly the order of the day with all winners being young female designers. Voting took place on Facebook with over 1600 people liking and sharing their favourites, whilst voting in the Leon at CCXIX showroom yielded over 500 votes. Our very own Marcia Margolius joined the elite judging panel, along with Joburg designer Donald Nxumalo, St Leger & Viney’s Peter Gordon and Leon at CCXIX’s Pim Verdoorn and Ilaria Guidi.
Marcia loved the fabric choices by the St Leger & Viney team which were just genius. The team perfectly interpreted each design. The winner received a 12-month design contract with Leon at CCXIX, including their share of sales of their design plus a R10 000 fabric voucher from St Leger & Viney. The second and third placed winners also received fabric vouchers from St Leger & Viney plus the opportunity to profit from sales of their designs.
