Sip, Savour, Stay: Inside Avontuur Estate’s Newly Reimagined Cellar Door
Avontuur Estate’s newly upgraded Cellar Door feels like a place designed for slowing down. Bright and welcoming, the refreshed space blends contemporary finishes with an easy indoor–outdoor rhythm, creating the kind of atmosphere where a quick tasting quietly stretches into an unhurried afternoon. With space for 70 guests, the new wine boutique leans into simplicity and warmth – an invitation to settle in, sip, and savour the estate’s surroundings.
Those surroundings do most of the talking. From the patio, vineyards roll into the distance before giving way to the soft silhouette of Table Mountain. Overhead, leafy vines form a loose, natural canopy that filters the sunlight and frames the view, while farmland and tall trees extend the scene into something almost pastoral. It’s a setting that feels both expansive and grounding, the kind of landscape that encourages you to stay a little longer.
The wines themselves tell a similar story. Guests can explore Avontuur’s newly launched collections through a series of signature tastings that reveal the estate’s character with gentle clarity: The Taberer Family Reserve (R150); The Avontuur Collection Tasting (R145 for three wines); and The Thoroughbred Collection (R145 for four). Guided by a team who speak about the wines the way some people talk about old friends, each tasting becomes a small journey – rooted in the Helderberg’s exceptional terroir, its cool coastal breezes, and the estate’s long-standing craft.
For those drawn deeper into the Avontuur experience, the Manor House offers a stay that feels quietly luxurious without ever being formal. Newly renovated, the nine-suite residence unfolds in soft lounges, airy rooms, a pool and pavilion, and generous lawns that catch the afternoon light. Together with the atmospheric Barrel Cellar, it has become a beloved setting for weddings, corporate gatherings, and private celebrations, brought to life in partnership with Warren-Stone Weddings & Events.
Whether you arrive for a tasting or a weekend away, the Cellar Door’s renewed energy feels effortless; considered but not contrived, polished yet deeply relaxed. With daily hours from 10h00 to 18h00 and extended summer evenings on Fridays and Saturdays (10h00 to 20h00 from 12 December 2025 to 11 January 2026), Avontuur Estate offers a place where the Helderberg slows, the view stretches out, and the wine does exactly what it should: bring people together.
