Pop Interior Design Studio: Residential Interiors

Based in KZN, Pop Interior Design Studio specialises in the design of commercial, hotel, restaurant and high-end residential interiors.

Founded in 2017, the studio is the creative labour of sisters Catia and Giselle, and their mutual friend, Terri.

Creative and passionate, the trio believes that attention to detail is key in any design.

“We believe that every detail matters. The quality of the light in the room, the textural layering, the depth of the tones. We consider all these elements and piece them all together meticulously all the while ensuring that our client’s vision is brought to life,” they say.

Their latest project, a studio apartment in Ballito, is no exception to the rule. Here, the team carefully layered texture and colour to create a fun, warm and welcoming tropical-inspired space.

“The original configuration in this narrow bedroom was a queen bed with a double bunk making circulation space absolutely minimal and leaving very little space for any other furniture. The BICs were not functional and the double window looking into the retaining walls made the bedroom spatially challenging. We closed up the window to the left wall and reconfigured the oversized en-suite to allow for more space in the bedroom, as well as to allow for a more practical BIC configuration. Out with the bunk beds and in with a sleeper sofa for grandchildren and we have a much more functional space that also looks luxe,” explains the team of the reno.

To keep it light and bright throughout, they opted for warm neutrals with pops of green and gold for a soft, luxurious touch and added lots of meaningful decorative items to make the space more personal.

“We love putting objects into our designed spaces that are functional and that also have meaning,” they say.

Finally, to emphasise the tropical theme, they added lots of rattan and pretty accessories such as artwork and scatter cushions with palm motifs to tie it all together.
