An Edwardian Remodel
Today’s immaculate home is the work of architect David Money, who managed to transform this former Edwardian terrace into a spectacular modern living space.
As head of an architectural firm, David is no stranger to the possibilities of remodelling an old residence into something new and wonderful. He and his team specialise in creating interest through form, light and the natural beauty of materials, resulting in spaces that uplift and inspire.
Calais street is a mid-terrace two-storey house, set in a row of six similar properties. Substantial structural works and alterations were carried out to revive this 19th century building.
This home came with the added challenge of being located within a conservation area. This meant that the team could not go ahead with any major construction but instead, needed to get creative in order to reinvent the interior of the building to suit a modern lifestyle.
The idea was to capture as much light as possible and to turn this home into a light-filled lived in abode. To achieve this, the side return has panels of glazing running its entire length. This allows for natural light to seep into the living space and adds a burst of freshness. Arched skylights have also been incorporated to ensure maximum lighting in the interior. Large sliding doors at the rear of the house further maximise physical and visual links to the garden.
A custom plywood staircase with vertical slats leads to the first floor. David has also added colour and pattern throughout with design classics, interesting accessories and plenty of plants.
