Plascon House Tour: An Upper West Side Home

Situated in New York’s Upper West Side, this beautiful and historic six-storey home is filled with minimalist appeal and a collection of timeless pieces. Home to an art-collecting duo, the home boasts creative flair with stunning collections that ooze a sense of elegance.

Designed by Gachot Studios for an exacting art-collecting couple, this historic townhouse is all about form and light. The primary directive from the clients was to create a gallery-like space that would showcase their ever-expanding and diverse collection of art and design. Gachot sought to deliver while making a space that was human, textured, and liveable.

In an interview with Elle Decor, when asked to describe the project, Gachot Studios explained: “We designed this 1893 Renaissance Revival townhouse for Eric and Charles by fusing their desire for a gallerylike space with our own conviction that a home should be comfortable, livable, and generous regardless of aesthetic preference. Historic details such as the staircase on the parlor floor are stripped down to their essence and rendered in shades of white, while expanses of light-colored parquet floors and accents of crisp millwork provide a backdrop of sturdy luxury for an edited yet diverse collection of art and design.”

Throughout the abode, furniture takes centre stage against a backdrop of subtle architectural finishes, similar to a sculpture in a gallery. The contrast between the lighter walls and darker furniture and fixtures draws attention to form.

The designers also chose many pieces for their shape and balance with the other objects in the room; it really was like curating a living exhibition.

Merging a love of art and design, each room becomes a beautiful display of furniture and creativity. A mix of materials add to the aesthetics, with wooden floors juxtaposed with modern furniture items of glass and upholstery.

The impressive home covers 8,000 square feet with an additional 1,700 square feet of private garden and terrace space. Featured above, a playful home bar becomes a statement room in this large home. Each space captures its own look and flair, and we love the use of interesting materials and bright art that fills each space.
