La Grange Interiors: Designing a Calm and Comfortable Family Home in Bedfordview
Set within a leafy, well-established pocket of Bedfordview, this family home feels gently insulated from the rush of everyday life. Designed by La Grange Interiors, the interiors echo the calm of their surroundings, offering spaces that feel grounded, intuitive and deeply comfortable.
The home belongs to a family of medical professionals with two young daughters, whose brief centred on creating a sanctuary – somewhere to unwind, reconnect and entertain with ease. Functionality was essential, but never at the expense of warmth. Every room needed to feel purposeful, inviting and effortless to live in.
Rather than imposing a decorative narrative, La Grange Interiors allowed the house to unfold naturally. An earthy, muted palette anchors the interiors, creating continuity from room to room. Soft greens, warm neutrals and subtle pops of colour appear where they’re most needed: playful and expressive in the children’s spaces, calmer and more restrained in shared living areas. The effect is relaxed yet considered, layered without feeling overworked.
Furniture selection plays a central role. Oversized sofas and generously scaled pieces establish a sense of balance and ease, allowing rooms to breathe. These anchor pieces are complemented by tactile layers: rugs that ground the spaces, ceramics and glass that add softness, and a mix of timber, metal and rattan that brings depth and contrast.
Lighting is used as a quiet but powerful tool. Sculptural pendants, floor lamps and wall lights create atmosphere and rhythm, shifting the mood throughout the day and into the evening. In the dining area, refined velvet seating is paired with raw, industrial elements, striking a balance between comfort and edge.
The result is a home that feels timeless and personal – not a showcase, but a place designed for real life. Calm, layered and welcoming, it reflects La Grange Interiors’ belief that the most beautiful spaces are those that allow you to slow down, settle in and stay awhile.
