La Grange Interiors: Ibiza’s holiday home
Far away from the bright lights and party scene of Ibiza’s centre, on the rugged and secluded north side of the island, you will find a contemporary holiday home filled with rustic charm.Under the thoughtful direction of Sumari Krige, interior designer and co-founder of La Grange Interiors, here, an expansive home – big enough for the owners and their five children – took careful shape.
With magnificent views that stretch as far as the ocean and surrounded by local vineyards, the surrounds informed much of the finca’s architecture as its interiors.
Known for her signature laid-back, richly textured style, Sumari’s grounded palette of neutral tones and textural accents were the perfect compliment to the white walls, local stone, exposed timber, and organic structural elements of the house.
As Sumarie notes, the house “is so calm and tactile that it created the most beautiful backdrop” so she worked to “create an interior that spoke to the surroundings without being too predictable.”
To achieve this, Sumari went about subtly layering the house’s architectural bones with natural elements to create easy-going but highly luxurious comfort. In the passage, sheer white curtains catch the soft breeze; in the living room, custom feather and down sofas beckon one to sit back and relax; and artisanal crockery add a distinct, handmade touch to every meal.
The result is an easy luxury that allows the house, even though contemporary in style, to effortlessly blend into its quiet surrounds. “This home is not a showpiece,” says Sumari. “It is designed to be lived in. IT’s really about comfort.”
